(see english text below)

Neste års Shetland Race starter onsdag 27 juni fra Bergen. Notice of Race og all annen info om Shetland Race finner du på: www.shetlandrace.no

– Nytt for 2018 er at Shetland Race inngår i Viking Offshore Race, sier Fridtjov Bergmann, leder for Shetland Race.

27 Juni:        Start leg 1: Bergen -  Lerwick

30 Juni:        Start retur leg: Lerwick – Bergen

1 Juli:           Start leg 2: Lerwick – Torshavn, alternativ start Lerwick – Bergen

6 Juli:           Start leg 3: Torshavn - Reykjavik

For 2018 vil vi arrangere to retur-seilaser.

In the wake of the vikings

Next year's Shetland Race will start Wednesday, June 27, from Bergen. Notice of Race and all other information about the Shetland Race can be found at: www.shetlandrace.no

"New for 2018 is that the Shetland Race is part of the Viking Offshore Race," says Fridtjov Bergmann, head of Shetland Race Committee.

The Norwegian Sea Sailing and Crossing Club (NHK) has for several years worked on the realization of this regatta. "Thanks to the good cooperation with Hordaland Sailing Association and their long-standing event Shetland Race, as well as support from the Norwegian Sailing Federation, it will now be a reality next summer," says Sverre Frich, initiator for the Viking Offshore Race. Invitations will be sent to all Nordic countries and countries in Northern Europe. You can find more information about the Viking Offshore Race at www.vikingoffshorerace.no

The regatta to the Faroe Islands and Iceland will be part of and an extension of the well-known Shetland Race between Bergen and Shetland. The Viking Offshore Race is initiated by the Norwegian Ocean Racing and Cruising Club. The implementation takes place in close collaboration with Hordaland Sailing Association and Norway's Sailing Federation. "We invite all interested sailors from several countries to experience some of the most exotic sea areas in the world," says Sverre Frich.

"We have already received positive signals from a number of participants," he says. – We have included enough time to crew exchanges and sightseeing at the respective destinations," Frich continues.

The program looks like this:

27 June: Start leg 1: Bergen - Lerwick

June 30: Start return leg: Lerwick - Bergen

1st of July: Start leg  2: Lerwick - Torshavn, alternative start Lerwick - Bergen

July 6: Start leg 3: Torshavn - Reykjavik

In recent years, the Shetland Race has had a return sail from Lerwick on Saturday.

"We find that this has been a success, while there are some sailors who want a longer stay at Shetland. For 2018 we will arrange two return regattas. The first return race will start Saturday and the other return race will have a joint start Sunday with the participants in Viking Offshore Race that set sail for the Faroe Islands and Iceland, says Fridtjov Bergmann. “As a result, there will be a prizes for each leg and not over all prizes. We hope the sailors appreciate these changes and that this contributes to increased participation, " Fridtjov Bergmann concludes.
